Staff Data Engineer - Real-Time Systems
About the Role
Our clients need data infrastructure that processes billions of events with sub-second latency. As Staff Data Engineer, you'll design and build the real-time data systems that power everything from fraud detection to personalization engines.
This is a client-facing technical leadership role. You'll work with Fortune 500 companies and fast-growing startups to architect data platforms that scale with their business.
The technical challenges you'll tackle:
- Stream processing pipelines handling 1M+ events/second
- Real-time feature stores for ML model serving
- Change data capture for seamless data integration
- Multi-region data replication with consistency guarantees
What You'll Do
- Lead architecture design for real-time data platforms for enterprise clients
- Build stream processing pipelines for high-volume, low-latency use cases
- Design and implement real-time feature stores for ML applications
- Establish data quality monitoring and alerting for streaming systems
- Mentor client engineering teams on real-time data best practices
- Contribute to technical pre-sales and solution architecture
- Build reusable components and accelerators for common patterns
- Stay current with streaming technologies and evaluate new tools
What We're Looking For
- 8+ years of data engineering experience with focus on real-time systems
- Expert-level experience with Apache Kafka, Flink, or Spark Streaming
- Strong programming skills in Python, Scala, or Java
- Deep understanding of distributed systems and CAP theorem trade-offs
- Experience with cloud data platforms (AWS Kinesis, GCP Dataflow, Azure Event Hubs)
- Knowledge of time-series databases and real-time analytics (ClickHouse, Druid, TimescaleDB)
- Experience leading technical projects and mentoring engineers
- Excellent client communication skills - you can lead technical discussions with CTOs
What We Offer
- Base salary: $200,000 - $260,000 depending on experience
- Performance bonus up to 20%
